New Jersey COVID-19 business and nonprofit organization survey: Nonprofit organization insights

July 14, 2020

A research brief by Jessica Starace and Carl Van Horn of the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development examines the responses of leaders of New Jersey nonprofit organizations to survey questions about the financial impact of the COVID-19 public health crisis, how they responded to the loss of funding and revenue, and their concerns about and plans for reopening.

The New Jersey COVID-19 Business and Nonprofit Organization Survey compiled responses from more than 3,500 New Jersey business and nonprofit leaders between May 21 and June 3, 2020, to assess the pandemic’s impact on their organizations. Survey respondents were asked to describe the financial situation they are facing as business owners due to the pandemic, and forecast what the financial future of their businesses and organizations might look like as they continue to operate or reopen for business. The survey also asked owners of businesses and organizations about their plans to reopen, their concerns about their customers and employees, and what they need from the government to reopen safely. This brief outlines some of the survey’s data on responses from 348 leaders of New Jersey nonprofit organizations that responded to the survey.
