MCRP student Michael Carrigy awarded APTF scholarship

October 7, 2019

Michael Carrigy, a graduate student in the Bloustein School’s urban planning program, was the recipient of the Mineta Transportation Institute / American Public Transportation Foundation Joint Scholarship. The award was presented at the Transform APTA conference in New York City in October.

Michael is currently employed at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) as a Railroad Equipment Scheduler while also pursuing an M.C.R.P degree with a concentration in transportation.

“After taking a number of years off of school to pursue professional interests in freight railroading, I returned to Bloustein after a phone conversation with the late professor Paul Larrousse,” said Michael “He encouraged me to return to Bloustein to finish my degree. After putting my concerns at ease, he reminded me of the important transit equity work I had taken on both professionally and academically. I cannot thank him enough for his efforts and contributions to the transit industry and to Bloustein.
