Education policy lecture: Understanding School Funding in New Jersey

October 28, 2012

Stan Karp, Director of the Secondary Education Reform Project at the Education Law Center will discuss New Jersey’s struggle for education equity in a policy lecture on Monday, October 22 at the Bloustein School.

In “Understanding School Funding in New Jersey,” Mr. Karp will discuss educational inequalities in New Jersey, the state’s former Abbott Districts, and overall education funding. At the Education Law Center, Mr. Karp works to monitor and support the implementation of effective middle and high school reform in New Jersey’s urban districts and to engage a broad group of stakeholders, policymakers and the public in efforts to reduce dropout rates, increase graduation and college participation rates, and narrow gaps in educational achievement and opportunity. He is also an editor of the school reform journal Rethinking Schools and has published widely on school reform and educational policy.

Moderated by Bloustein Assistant Professor Stephanie Curenton as part of her course on education policy, the lecture will begin at 3:00 p.m. in the Special Events Forum at the Bloustein School’s Civic Square Building, 33 Livingston Avenue, New Brunswick, NJ. The event is free and open to the public.
