For decades, states have been grappling with modernizing their technology with increasingly insufficient administrative funding. This has proven to be a challenging experience in every state. Particularly in the wake of the pandemic, states have sought to learn from each other’s experiences as they are increasingly facing similar challenges. As the potential for a recession looms, according to the Federal Open Markets Committee, finding areas to focus on that can solve the immediate problem short of full IT modernization could help states make short-term improvements that will lead to improved performance in the case of a high unemployment period. The Heldrich Center believes that New Jersey’s approach to both short- and long-term technology and process improvement is promising, and may be helpful to other states that are considering the options available to improve their systems.

This virtual forum will examine both the leadership structure and technical environment that is paving the path to a whole system that is successfully getting benefits to people on time.
