Salzman to discuss U.S. STEM college majors as part of Science journal live chat, Thursday, Jan. 16

Dr. Hal Salzman, Bloustein School professor and senior faculty fellow at the John J. Heldrich Center for Workforce Development, will participate in a live chat discussion hosted by Science journal on Thursday, January 16 at 3:00 p.m. Eastern. The discussion, “The Making (Or Breaking) of a Science Major,” will focus on undergraduate STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) education and the scientific workforce. The discussion will be hosted by Science journal.

Susan Singer, division director for undergraduate education at the National Science Foundation, will also participate in the discussion. Science Senior Correspondent Jeffrey Mervis will moderate the discussion. The panelists will discuss how attrition among STEM majors compares with rates in other fields, what happens to STEM dropouts, and what can be done to attract and retain students who want to earn a science and engineering degree.
