Bloustein Graduate Planning Studio Presents Recommendations to Dunellen Mayor and Borough Council

December 23, 2023

In mid-December, a Bloustein School graduate redevelopment studio hosted public presentations in Dunellen, NJ for Mayor Jason F. Cilento and members of the Dunellen Borough Council at a redevelopment community meeting.

Dunellen is considering various strategies to revitalize its historic downtown, including possibly a Main Street strategy. Begun over four decades ago, the Main Street program works to preserve and revitalize the distinctive historic, cultural, and economic functions of America’s downtowns, synthesizing both historic preservation and economic development.

Continuing the work of prior Bloustein School graduate planning studios conducted for Dunellen on the subjects of business improvement districts and murals, the current studio assembled data, including local surveys of Dunellen residents and case studies of Main Street implementation both nationally and in New Jersey, to inform Dunellen about the Main Street program. The graduate student coordinators for the studio are James Barnett and Leah Emmerich. Graduate student participants are Olubori Agboola, Rachael Burstein, Alina Butareva, Miguel Garcia, Melanie Rodrigo, Alexander Ruiz, Hannah Valenzuela, and Rutuja Vartak. The studio was conducted by Distinguished Professor David Listokin.
