PhD candidate Bienski named scholar-in-residence at The African American Library at the Gregory School

April 19, 2017

Bloustein School PhD candidate Gina Bienski has been named a scholar-in-residence at the African American Library at the Gregory School in Houston, Tx. in partnership with Rice University’s Center for Engaged Research and Collaborative Learning.

As part of the appointment, she will be provided with resources at the library in order to study the demolition of single family, historic homes in Freedmen’s Town in Houston, where the Gregory School is located. The residency will run from February through July 2017, during which time she will share her research on affiliated blog sites and present two lectures at the conclusion—one at the library and one at Rice. “I’m very excited about this opportunity, as it will really help me with my dissertation research,” Ms. Bienski noted. “It will also help me build relationships with the scholarly community in Houston, not to mention community relationships. I am thankful for the help and guidance provided throughout the application by professor Kathe Newman.”
