Rutgers Master of Health Administration (MHA) program, housed within the Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy and accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education, was ranked 32nd out of 91 programs.

“We are thrilled that our MHA program, which is really still in its infancy is making such a strong debut in the national rankings,” said Stuart Shapiro, Dean of the Bloustein School.

The Bloustein MHA program was established in 2017 and educates early and mid-level careerists for entry-level positions and those of increasing responsibility and leadership in healthcare. Graduates of the program work in hospitals, insurance companies, health maintenance organizations, healthcare consulting firms, pharmaceutical/biotech companies, and other healthcare settings.

The program is a 45-credit, competency-based model, which addresses five domains: healthcare environment, leadership and professional development, management and business, communication and relationship management, and entrepreneurship and innovation. Every core course in the program is linked to one or more of these competencies ensuring a solid foundation for students in healthcare administration.

“I am delighted that U.S. News’ ranking reflects the quality education that Rutgers MHA is delivering to its students and the important contribution it is making to the health care management field,” said Ellen T. Kurtzman, Ph.D., MPH, RN, FAAN, professor and executive director of health administration. “As a young program, we are especially proud of being recognized among the country’s best.”

Respondents rate the academic quality of programs on a scale of 1 (marginal) to 5 (outstanding). Only fully accredited programs in good standing during the survey period were ranked.
