Weiner honored as 2014 Rose Teaching Excellence Award recipeint

June 23, 2014

The Bloustein School is pleased to announce that Marc D. Weiner, Associate Research Professor and Associate Director/Faculty Fellow for the Bloustein Center for Survey Research, is the 2014 recipient of the Jerome Rose Excellence in Teaching Award . The Rose Award is  presented annually to a full-time faculty member committed to quality teaching. Faculty and graduate students from both the Urban Planning and Public Policy Masters programs at the Bloustein School nominate recipients. The award was presented to Dr. Weiner at a luncheon held on June 23.

Dr. Rose was a Distinguished Professor of planning and environmental law at the Bloustein School from 1969 to 1996 and endowed this teaching award. At his retirement dinner, he declared, “My twenty-seven years at Rutgers have been the best years of my life.”  He passed away in 2013 following a brief illness.

As one student observed in his nomination of Dr. Weiner, “He encouraged me to think outside the box, and is always interested and extremely well-read about the subject matter he discusses. Even if the topic is not initially interesting to me, it becomes interesting just because of vibrant way in which Dr.Weiner discusses it. He is fair, kind, and welcoming. His sense of humor lights up the seminar and allows everyone to engage positively.”
